House Wren
Description: Small bird with brown back and head. Wings and tail are brown with lightly barred. Under body is pale. White eye ring.
Nest: Cup of twigs is made on top of a platform of sticks. Nest is lined with bark strips, feathers, hair, plant stems and other fine materials. Made in bird box or natural cavity,woodpecker hole, and almost any cavity found suitable. One nest was found in a cardboard box hanging from the ceiling of an open shed.
Eggs: 5 - 8, tan with fine brown speckles.
Diet: Small insects, spiders, centipedes, daddy long-legs and insect larvae. Will visit feeders offering meal worms.
Habitat: Backyards, open woodlands, field edges, and gardens, tending to go for areas with thickets. They seem to prefer nest boxes placed close to shrubbery rather than more exposed ones.
