Common Yellowthroat
Description: Male: small olive warbler with lighter underside, yellow throat and upper breast, and a telltale black mask.
Female: olive overall with lighter throat and faint white eye-ring.
Habitat: Thickets, meadow edges, forest undergrowth, swamps and hedgerows.
Nest: Bulky cup that sometimes suggests a larger bird. Constructed of grasses, weed stems, and leaves. lined with finer grasses. Placed on the ground in a tussock or at the base of shrubs or plants. Sometimes slightly off of the ground in a shrub or between goldenrod stalks.
Eggs: White with brown speckles, often concentrated at larger end.
Diet: Insects such as caterpillars, beetles and flies. Young are fed a diet greatly composed of caterpillars.
